Comments: What a win for our ball club. Just when our kids character was being tested, they responded with a big win. We hit the ball well tonight and other than the 5th and 6th we played good defense and Gilbert pitched a good game. We now travel to Bishop which is also 1-0 with a 2-1 win over Hebbronville.

District Game #2
March 30 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
Falfurrias Jerseys 0 0 0 0 2 0 0 - - 2 3 0
Bishop 0 0 5 0 0 2 x - - 7 10 0

Losing Pitcher: Gilbert Vela, relief by Jason Garcia
Leading Hitters: Roli Gutierrez 1-2 2b 2 rbi's, Marcus Castillo 1-3, Santana Mejia 1-4.
Comments: With two outs and two strikes in the third, Dariel Rios broke this game open and we never recovered. Bishop got 4 hits in a row. We left 12 men on the bases and couldn't get the big hit. Dariel Rios kept us off stride and Bishop hit the ball. This was a big win for Bishop and a lost opportunity for us to steal one on the road. Well, we got San Diego this Friday at home and we'll be working harder to get back on track.

District Game #3
April 2 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
Falfurrias Jerseys 0 1 1 0 1 11 x - - 14 9 3
San Diego 2 2 0 1 0 1 0 - - 6 11 2

Winning Pitcher: Santana Mejia 2-0 in relief of Danny Duarte in the second.
Leading Hitters: Marcus Castillo 2-4, Danny Duarte 1-3, Santana Mejia 2-4, Milan Guerra 2-2, Jason Garcia 2-2.
Comments: After a day of rain, we got our game in. San Diego didn't bring rain but they were raining base hits and gave us a run for our money. We just couldn't figure out San Diego's 5 pitchers. I give our kids credit for hanging in there and finally putting something together in the sixth. The best news of the night was watching Santana Mejia on the mound for the first time since the Border Olympics. Zapata upset Bishop and that threw this race back to a new beginning and a four way tie for first. Let's hope we get healthy quick and put some things together, so we can get some breathing room. this race is never easy!

District Game #4
April 6 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
Falfurrias Jerseys 0 1 0 0 2 0 2 - - 5 7 2
Hebbronville 0 0 1 3 0 0 0 - - 4 6 0

Winning Pitcher: Bobby Gomez 5-1 in relieve of Gilbert Vela in the 4th.
Leading Hitters: Bobby Gomez 2-4 2b, Danny Duarte 2-4 2b rbi, Roli Gutierrez 1-2 2b 2 rbi, Santana Mejia 1-2 rbi, Marcus Castillo 1-2, Jason Garcia 1-1.
Comments: What a game and everyone excepted it to be one. Our kids showed alot of character by coming through when it was it was our last at bat. And yes, he's back - Bobby Gomez came in to save the day! He is not quite 100% but 75 % and is better than anyone in our district. Our kids showed strong minds and hearts because as most of you know, our city was hit hard by storms in the last couple of days. With their houses under water, hailed damaged, and all kinds of debris all over their yards and no practice the previous day, These kids found a couple of hours to get their minds off their personal problems and played a good game against a well coached Hebbronville team. We now face Orange Grove on Thursday. The race stands with Zapata, Bishop and Fal all tied up at the top with a 3-1 record.

District Game #5
April 8 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
Falfurrias Jerseys 1 1 1 1 1 2 x - - 7 7 0
Orange Grove 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 - - 0 1 3

Winning Pitcher: Santana Mejia 3-0 7 k's 1 hitter!
Leading Hitters: Danny Duarte 1-3, Santana Mejia 2-3, Marcus Castillo 1-3, Delfi Salinas 1-1, Trey Alegria 1-1, Jason Garcia 1-1.
Comments: When you get good pitching and good defense more times than not that leads to a Jersey win. After a 30 minute rain delay our kids played a very solid game. We got men on base and got key hits. We now go on to the second half of district Tuesday at Zapata. We are where we want to be with 5 games to go and destiny is in your own hands.

District Game #6
April 13 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
Falfurrias Jerseys 1 0 2 1 3 0 0 - - 7 11 1
Zapata 1 1 0 0 0 0 0 - - 2 2 0

Winning Pitcher: Bobby Gomez 5-1, 13 k's
Leading Hitters: Bobby Gomez 2-4 rbi, Roli Gutierrez 1-4 rbi 2b, Santana Mejia 1-3 rbi, Marcus Castillo 3-4 2 rbi's, Milan Guerra 1-2 rbi, Zeke Lopez 2-2, Jason Garcia 1-2 rbi.
Comments: Our kids played a very solid game tonight. Bobby Gomez was overpowering and we had our hitting shoes on tonight and we executed Jersey Baseball tonight. Well with Bishop's win tonight it leaves us
and Bishop tied for first and Zapata a game back. We take Friday off for our district track meet and resume play next Tuesday against Bishop for sole possession of first place.

District Game #7
April 20 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
Falfurrias Jerseys 0 0 1 5 1 1 x - - 8 7 1
Bishop 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 - - 1 2 4

Winning Pitcher: Bobby Gomez 6-1, save Santana Mejia Bobby 9 k's, Santana 4 k's
Leading Hitters: Bobby Gomez 3 for 3, 2 rbi's, Santana Mejia 1-4, Marcus Castillo 1-3 db, Zeke Lopez 1-3, Orlando Munoz 1-1.
Comments: This game had all the makings of a South Texas show down. With the game scoreless after two innings and a game delay due to a power outage, our kids saw the lights turned on and responded with a 5 spot in the 4th and the rest was Bobby Gomez and Santana Mejia and a tough Jersey defense. Bishop's Kyle Richey kept Bishop in the game with 7 k's but 3 errors and 2 timely hits by Bobby and Zeke busted this game open. Well, this win puts us one up on Bishop and two on Zapata with 3 games to go. This was a big win for me in many ways as it was win number 351 here at Fal and our kids are back on top of this district.

District Game #8
April 23 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
Falfurrias Jerseys 3 0 2 5 10 - - - - 20 19 4
San Diego 0 0 0 5 3 - - - - 8 6 3

Winning Pitcher: Gilbert Vela 6-2 7 k's
Leading Hitters: Bobby Gomez 1-3, Andrew Rodriquez 1-1, Danny Duarte 2-3, Mario Ramirez 2-2, Roli Gutierrez 2-4, Santana Mejia 3-3, Milan Guerra 3-3, Zeke Lopez 1-2, Robby Regalado 1-3, Reese Forest 1-1, Jason Garcia 1-1 hr.
Comments: Our kids came to play tonight. Gilbert Vela pitched a good game and our defense made some big plays when they had to. This win clinches another playoff spot for us. Congratulations to our Seniors and the rest of the team for reaching goal number one, Goal number two is to win district and winning one of the last two games will do that. Zapata upset Bishop 9-7 in 8 innings so that provided some cushion for us. We play Hebbronville on Thursday at home and Orange Grove Saturday on the road. I would also like to tell our fans that a big congratulations goes out to our Belles softball team as they will advance to the playoffs this Thursday in La Joya versus La Feria. This is the first time in school history after 7 years of existence.

District Game #9
- 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
Falfurrias Jerseys 3 7 3 9 x - - - - 22 10 0
Orange Grove 1 0 0 0 0 - - - - 1 1 4

Winning Pitcher: Santana Mejia 2 innings relief by Gilbert Vela
Leading Hitters: Bobby Gomez 1-3, Roli Gutierrez 1-2, Santana Mmejia 1-2, Marcus Castillo 1-4, Milan Guerra 2-3, Trey Alegria 2-2, Juan Carlos Garcia 2-2.
Comments: After a Saturday cancellation due to rain, we had to play in San Diego at 5:00 and had Hebbronville at 7:00 in order to make up our last two games. Although it was a strange arrangement, our kids played focused and with alot of pride. Winning game one would make us district champs. Congratulations to our kids for overcoming many obstacles this season and still accomplishing goal number two which is a district championship.

District Game #10
- 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
Falfurrias Jerseys 0 2 2 0 0 1 2 - - 7 10 4
Hebbronville 1 0 1 2 0 2 0 - - 6 12 2

Winning Pitcher: Santana Mejia
Leading Hitters: Danny Duarte 1-2, Roli Gutierrez 1-3, Santana Mejia 2-2 hr., Marcus Castillo 2-4 2b, Milan Guerra 1-2, Jason Garcia 1-1, Robby Regalado 2-2 winning hit in 7th.
Comments: In what had to be the best district game of the season we pulled out a 7-6 win like true champions. Santana Mejia performed what had to be the guttest games this year. The young man was cramping up on his pitching hand and still survived a tough 7th inning. Then he came up and lead the bottom of the 7th in a do or die situation with a leadoff homerun. Marcus Castillo then doubled, Milan Guerra bunted him over, and Robby Regalado then hit a base hit up the middle for the game winner and an undisputed district championship. Our kids had no idea that U.I.L. had decided to make us play a double hitter in San Diego until about 1:00 p.m. that afternoon. All this time they thought they were going to Orange Grove for a 7:00 p.m. game. I was concerned that we were going to be satisfied with the first win which gave us the district championship but by losing game two we could share the title with Zapata. Our kids played with a lot of pride and courage tonight and a lot can be said about Hebbronville - they had nothing to play for but pride and they played us as well as anybody. They beat Zapata the next day 15-7. So our district ended with fal at 9-1, Zapata and Bishop at 7-3, Hebbronville at 5-5, Orange Grove at 2-8, and San Diego at 0-10. We now wait for the winner of Pearsall and Mathis for our area opponent.
